What The QLD Standards Actually Require For Compliance

Emergency lighting sits across three parts of one standard. AS/NZS 2293.1 governs design and installation, including where fittings go and how far an exit sign of a given rating can be seen from.

AS/NZS 2293.2 governs inspection and maintenance, and this is the part with the recurring obligation: a routine service every six months with a full-duration discharge test, where the mains supply is isolated and every fitting must run on its own battery for its rated duration, commonly 90 minutes, while still delivering the required light output. AS/NZS 2293.3 covers the fittings and signs themselves.

Results go in a log book that follows the building through changes of tenant, manager and owner, and an incomplete log book is one of the most common findings in an audit.
