COMMON FAQ

Here are a list of common questions we get asked by our Gold Coast Homeowners and Businesses

An appliance safety inspection checks that your electrical appliances and their connections are safe to use – testing for faults, damaged cords, poor earthing and leakage that could cause shock or fire. It’s ideal for older appliances, second-hand purchases, rental properties, or anything that’s been tripping the safety switch. We identify hazards and carry out basic repairs where practical, so you know what’s safe and what isn’t.
Warning signs include a burning or hot-plastic smell, discoloured or melted plugs, frayed or damaged cords, tingling when you touch the appliance, sparking, or the appliance tripping the safety switch. Any of these means you should stop using it and have it checked. Tingles or shocks in particular are serious. We can inspect the appliance and its circuit to determine whether it’s repairable or should be replaced.
An appliance that trips the safety switch almost always has an internal fault causing current leakage — the safety switch is correctly detecting it and protecting you from shock. Common culprits are worn heating elements, moisture ingress, or damaged internal wiring. Don’t keep resetting it. We can test the appliance to confirm it’s the source, and advise whether a basic repair or replacement is the safer call.
It depends on the appliance and the fault. Simple issues like a damaged cord, plug or connection are often repairable and worthwhile. But sealed modern appliances, or ones where the fault is internal and costly, are frequently cheaper to replace. We’ll inspect it and give you an honest recommendation – we won’t push a repair that doesn’t make financial sense for you.
es. We carry out appliance safety checks that help landlords and property managers meet their duty to provide safe electrical appliances and fittings to tenants. This reduces liability and protects tenants. We can inspect supplied appliances, fixed equipment and connections, and provide documentation of the work. Contact us to arrange checks across your rental or portfolio.
Yes – any tingle or shock from an appliance is a serious warning sign of an earthing or insulation fault, and it can be fatal under the wrong conditions. Stop using the appliance immediately, unplug it if safe, and don’t use it again until it’s checked. Call a licensed electrician promptly. We’ll test the appliance and circuit and make it safe, or advise replacement.
Yes. Faulty appliances are a leading cause of house fires – through overheating elements, damaged cords, arcing plugs or internal faults. Older appliances, cheap imports and anything left running unattended carry higher risk. Regular safety checks and prompt attention to warning signs (heat, smell, sparking) dramatically reduce that risk. If something seems off with an appliance, it’s worth having it inspected.
Switch the appliance off at the wall and unplug it immediately if you can do so safely, and don’t use it again. A burning smell means overheating – a genuine fire risk. If there’s smoke or scorching, switch off the circuit at the board and, if there’s any fire, call 000. Once it’s safe, call us and we’ll inspect the appliance and its circuit.
