Electrician Gold Coast: Licensed, Fixed-Price, 24/7 Emergency

Local, licensed, and fixed-price. Call any time, day or night.

QLD Licence 1511406 Lifetime workmanship warranty Fixed price, on site, before work starts 24/7 emergency call-out

Why the Gold Coast Calls Knight Electrical Solutions

The Gold Coast is not one market, it is dozens. Beachfront units, hinterland acreage, seventies brick-and-tile, brand new estates, shopfronts and unit blocks. An electrician who really only works on one of those will not tell you so. We work across the lot, from the southern beaches and the border up through the central suburbs to the northern Broadwater.

What we actually offer is narrower than the service list suggests. A fixed price agreed on site before work starts, so you are never billed by the hour and never surprised by the invoice. A lifetime workmanship warranty rather than the twelve months that passes for standard, which changes how carefully a job gets done in the first place. QLD licence 1511406, full insurance, and more than twenty years across residential, commercial and body-corporate work.

We are a Gold Coast business based at Palm Beach, not a franchise routing calls in from somewhere else, so most bookings can be done same day right across the coast. And for the things that cannot wait until morning, no power, an outlet sparking, a burning smell, we take emergency call-outs 24 hours a day.

What to check before you book any electrician

Four things worth knowing whoever you call. Sources for every claim sit underneath it.

Before you call anyone

The licence number has to be in the ad, so its absence tells you something

This is the fastest filter there is and almost nobody uses it. Queensland law requires an electrical contractor to display their registered name and electrical contractor licence number on all advertising — WorkSafe Queensland’s list runs to websites and social media, newspaper ads, posters, brochures and flyers, fridge magnets, switchboard stickers, vehicle signage, radio and television, even telephone on-hold advertising. On printed material the details have to be clearly displayed so they can be easily read; in spoken advertising they have to be clearly audible. A handful of things are exempt, including uniforms, business cards and stationery, shop fronts and merchandise. So if you are looking at a van, a flyer or a Facebook post with no licence number on it, that is either an exemption or a problem, and it costs nothing to find out which. Then verify it: WorkSafe runs a free electrical licence holder search, and a real licence number will come back with a real name attached. Ours is 1511406.

What a warranty is not

Your rights do not depend on what the contractor promises

Everyone in this trade sells on warranty length, ours included, and it is worth being straight about where that sits. Under Australian Consumer Law, services come with guarantees that attach automatically: they must be carried out with an acceptable level of care and skill, they and anything they produce must be fit for any stated purpose, and they must be supplied within a reasonable time where no timeframe was agreed. The ACCC’s wording on whether a business can write around them is short: “The basic rights covered by consumer guarantees can’t be taken away by anything a business says or does.” A warranty is something different — “extra promises that a business can choose to make on top of the consumer guarantees.” So a twelve-month warranty does not cap you at twelve months, and a lifetime one is worth having only for what it adds. If a contractor’s paperwork reads as though signing it waives something, that is the part to query.

If they came to you

Ten business days, and they cannot take your money inside them

Door-knocking for solar, battery and switchboard work is constant across the Gold Coast, and an agreement signed at your door is a different legal animal from one you went looking for. The ACCC sets the rules for unsolicited consumer agreements and they are worth knowing before the knock, not after. Uninvited approaches are limited to weekdays between 9am and 6pm and Saturdays between 9am and 5pm. You then get a cooling-off period of 10 business days, starting the first business day after you sign or receive the agreement, and you can cancel by phone, in person, post, email or the form provided. The part that matters most: during cooling off the seller cannot supply the services and cannot take payment, with narrow exceptions for electricity, gas and emergency repairs. Anyone pressing for a deposit on the spot for non-urgent work is working against that. The rules do not apply below a total value of $100.

New this month

Queensland replaced its entire electrical safety regulation on 1 September 2026

Most people will never read it, but two things in it reach ordinary households and small businesses this year. The Electrical Safety Regulation 2026 commenced on 1 September 2026 and replaced the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013, which expired at the same time. Part 3 continues the requirement that the relevant electrical installations be de-energised before anyone works in or enters the roof space of a domestic building — a rule that first arrived on 1 January 2025 and applies to any trade going up there, not just electricians. And the duties on a business include removing safety switches that are not working properly, which is stronger than it sounds: a dead RCD sitting in a board is worse than an empty slot, because everyone downstream assumes they are protected. If guidance you are reading still cites the 2013 regulation, it has not caught up yet. The suburb pages below go into both in more detail.

Byron Knight, owner and licensed electrician at Knight Electrical Solutions

Meet the electrician

Byron Knight has spent 20+ years wiring things up in more places than most people could point to on a map: FIFO mining camps, private jets, job sites across New Zealand, and now switchboards across the Gold Coast. QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 1511406, and all of it still comes back to the same basic job: making sure your power works and your house doesn’t catch fire.

When he’s not under a house or up on a roof, he’s usually chasing a wave or three coffees deep before most people are out of bed, which might explain the early starts. That standard is the one every job we take on gets held to.

“Do it once, do it right” isn’t just a tagline. I’m not interested in being back at your place in six months for the same problem.– Byron

The price is agreed before the job starts and nothing extra turns up on the invoice afterwards. Every job comes with a lifetime workmanship warranty instead of the usual 12 months, and we’re available around the clock for genuine emergencies right across the Gold Coast.

Frequently asked questions

What areas of the Gold Coast do you service?
We cover the Gold Coast from Coolangatta and Kirra in the south, through Palm Beach, Burleigh, Robina, Varsity Lakes and the hinterland suburbs, up through Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise and Southport to Labrador, Runaway Bay and the northern waterfront, plus Tweed Heads across the border. The full suburb list is on this page — each one links to a page for that suburb. Southern suburbs closest to our Palm Beach base are the quickest to reach, so if your job is urgent and you’re at the northern end, call and we’ll tell you honestly what today looks like.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency electrician call-outs on the Gold Coast?
Yes. We provide 24/7 emergency call-outs for genuine urgent issues: power loss, sparking outlets, burning smells, or exposed wiring. Standard trading hours apply for scheduled, non-urgent work. Call 0421 333 034 any time to report an emergency. One thing worth knowing first — if the whole street is out, or you’re getting a shock or tingle off a tap or metal fitting, that’s a network fault and Energex is the right call on 13 12 53.
How do I check an electrician is actually licensed?
Queensland law requires an electrical contractor to display their registered name and licence number on all advertising — websites, social media, flyers, vehicle signage, radio and more. So start by looking for the number, then verify it through WorkSafe Queensland’s free electrical licence holder search. Ours is QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 1511406 and it appears on every page of this site.
What electrical issues are common in older Gold Coast homes?
Many established Gold Coast homes built in the 1970s–90s still run original switchboards never designed for modern air conditioning, EV chargers or full appliance loads. Tripping breakers, rewireable ceramic fuses, no safety switch on the lighting circuits, and salt-corroded outdoor fittings are the most common calls we get. Safety switches only became compulsory on power point circuits in new Queensland homes in 1992, and on lighting circuits in 2000, so older stock often has protection on some circuits and none on the rest.
Do you handle body corporate and strata work?
Yes. We work with body corporates and strata managers on apartment blocks, townhouse complexes and multi-unit properties across the Gold Coast, including emergency and exit lighting, common-area power, carpark lighting and compliance testing, quoted on a fixed-price basis.
Do you do electrical work for shops and small businesses?
Yes. Alongside body corporate and strata work we handle general electrical work for shops, offices, cafes and small businesses across the Gold Coast — lighting upgrades, general wiring, thermal imaging and preventative maintenance plans, all quoted fixed-price before work starts.
How does your pricing work?
We confirm the price on site before starting any work, so you know the cost upfront rather than watching an hourly rate tick over. Once we’ve agreed the price, that’s the price. Payment happens on the spot once the job’s done, via portable EFTPOS.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 1511406 and full insurance. Every job also comes with a lifetime workmanship warranty rather than the usual 12-month term — on top of the consumer guarantees that apply automatically under Australian Consumer Law and can’t be signed away.

Do it once. Do it right.

Every page on this list says licensed, fixed-price, backed for life. The difference shows up after you’ve called.

Disclaimer & sources

The information in the “What to check before you book any electrician” section is drawn from the third-party sources cited on each card and was last reviewed in September 2026. Those materials belong to the cited sources, not to Knight Electrical Solutions, and we do not claim to have produced them ourselves.

Advertising and licensing requirements, and the availability of a public licence search, reflect material published by WorkSafe Queensland. That guidance was issued while the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 was in force; that regulation was replaced by the Electrical Safety Regulation 2026 on 1 September 2026, so section numbering has changed even where the requirement has not. WorkSafe Queensland is the right source for the current provision.

Consumer guarantee information reflects material published by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. It is general information about rights that apply automatically to services; it is not legal advice, and how a guarantee applies to a particular job depends on the facts.

Rules for unsolicited consumer agreements, including permitted approach hours, the 10 business day cooling-off period and the restrictions on supply and payment during it, reflect material published by the ACCC as at September 2026. Thresholds and exceptions apply, and the ACCC is the right source for your own situation.

References to the Electrical Safety Regulation 2026 reflect material published by WorkSafe Queensland. This is general information, not legal advice about your obligations, and the duties described sit with the person or business carrying out the work rather than with the householder.

Statements about Queensland smoke alarm obligations, and about the dates from which safety switches became compulsory in new Queensland homes, reflect requirements published by the Queensland Fire Department and the Electrical Safety Office respectively. They are general information, not legal advice about your property, sale or tenancy.

Each card above combines published third-party material with Knight Electrical Solutions’ own professional interpretation of what it tends to mean when hiring an electrician. The published material belongs to the sources cited on each card. The conclusions we draw from it are our opinion, and are not claims made by those sources.

None of this replaces an on-site inspection by a licensed electrician. If something on your property looks or smells unsafe, call 0421 333 034 rather than relying on general information.
