Why Your LEDs Flicker, Buzz Or Will Not Dim Properly
Almost always the dimmer, not the lights. Dimmers built for halogen loads do not drive LED drivers correctly.
The result is flicker, an audible buzz, a limited dimming range, or lights that will not switch on at low settings because the load is below what the dimmer needs to see.
The fix is a compatible dimmer matched to the drivers, not a different brand of globe. If you have already replaced the globes twice trying to solve this, that is why.

1. How much does it cost to upgrade my lights to LED?
The cost depends on how many fittings you’re converting, the type of lights (downlights, batten fixtures, outdoor), and whether existing wiring or transformers need attention.

2. Are LED downlights worth switching to?
Yes. LED downlights use up to 80% less energy than halogens, last far longer, and run much cooler – halogen downlights are a known ceiling-fire risk because of the heat they generate.
Switching cuts your power bill, reduces replacements, and improves safety. For most Gold Coast homes it’s one of the highest-value electrical upgrades you can make, and we can often do it in a single visit.
3. Can you replace halogen downlights with LEDs safely?
Absolutely – and it’s a smart safety upgrade. Old halogen downlights get extremely hot and have caused ceiling insulation fires.
We replace them with modern, cooler-running LED fittings, checking the wiring and transformers as we go and ensuring correct clearances. It’s straightforward for a licensed electrician, and you’ll enjoy lower bills, better light quality and greater peace of mind.
4. Why do my LED lights flicker or buzz?
Flickering or buzzing LEDs are usually caused by an incompatible dimmer, a poor-quality driver, a loose connection, or mixing LED and non-LED fittings on the same circuit. LEDs need dimmers and transformers designed for them.
We’ll diagnose the cause (often a simple dimmer or driver swap) and fix it so your lights run smoothly and silently.
5. Can you install dimmer switches with LED lighting?
Yes, but the dimmer must be LED-compatible – standard old dimmers cause flickering, buzzing and reduced globe life with LEDs. We install trailing-edge or purpose-built LED dimmers matched to your fittings, so you get smooth, full-range dimming without the flicker.
If your current dimmers are misbehaving with new LEDs, that’s almost always the cause, and it’s an easy fix.
6. Do you install outdoor, garden and security lighting?
Yes. We install and repair outdoor lighting including garden lights, floodlights, sensor and security lights, deck and entertaining-area lighting, and pathway lights. Good outdoor lighting improves safety, security and how you enjoy your outdoor spaces – important in the Gold Coast climate.

7. My light isn't working - is it the globe or the wiring?
It could be either. Start by trying a new globe; if that doesn’t fix it, the issue may be the fitting, the switch, the wiring or the circuit. If multiple lights are out or a safety switch has tripped, it’s likely a wiring or circuit fault that needs a licensed electrician.
We’ll quickly determine whether it’s a simple fitting fault or something in the wiring, and repair it properly.
8. Can you install ceiling fans with lights?
Yes. We supply and install ceiling fans, including fan-and-light combos, replacing existing fittings or wiring new positions during a renovation. Ceiling fans are a cost-effective way to stay comfortable in the Gold Coast heat and reduce air-conditioning costs.
