Why Worongary Calls Knight Electrical Solutions

Every electrician site covering the hinterland says the same thing: licensed, fast, friendly. None of that tells you who’s actually showing up at your door.

Here’s what does: Knight Electrical Solutions holds QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 1511406. 20+ years across switchboard faults, smoke alarm compliance, lighting, EV chargers and commercial work, all quoted on site before anything gets switched off.

Worongary sits just west of the M1, adjoining Mudgeeraba’s northern boundary, with a large area of production forestry in the suburb’s north-west. The name comes from an Aboriginal word, Whorrongary, meaning vine or the flight of a pigeon. It’s hilly country with coastal views in places, and around 6,021 people call it home.

Housing splits two ways: suburb-density residential in the north-east, built up mainly since the local primary school opened in 1993, and rural-residential blocks of 4,000 to 5,000 square metres through the middle and south. Our residential electrical services cover both, from switchboard upgrades on standard blocks to shed and machinery wiring on the bigger acreages.

Either way, the process doesn’t change. Call, get a straight answer, and in most cases we’ll have someone on site the same day, with the price agreed before any work begins.

Local knowledge: Worongary

Four things about Worongary that change what your place actually needs. Every figure below is third-party published data, sourced underneath.

No strata anywhere

98.2% separate houses and, at the 2021 Census, not a single townhouse

Worongary is the most detached suburb on this list by a distance. The 2021 Census records 98.2% of dwellings as separate houses against 74.8% across Queensland, flats at 1.6%, and semi-detached homes and townhouses at 0.0%, across 1,977 private dwellings. There is effectively no common property in this suburb. That cuts both ways. Nothing here waits on a committee or a sinking fund, so work gets quoted and started on your say-so alone, which is why jobs move faster in Worongary than in the towers up the coast. The flip side is that there is nobody to share a cost with either: the mains, the switchboard, the outdoor points, the shed, the driveway lighting and any pole on the block are all one owner’s problem. With 2.6 registered vehicles per dwelling, the highest figure on this list, that matters most when a charger goes in. There is no building supply to allocate from, so the answer comes down entirely to your own main switch rating and mains.

Dated by a school

Homes from Worongary’s growth years have a safety switch on the power points and nothing on the lights

Worongary State School opened on 1 February 1993, and the north-eastern part of the suburb filled in at suburb densities around it. Queensland’s safety switch rules bracket that period almost exactly. Safety switches became compulsory on power point circuits in new Queensland homes from 1992, and on power point and lighting circuits from 2000. A house built in the window between those two dates was compliant when it was wired and is compliant now, with a safety switch protecting the power points and nothing protecting the lighting circuits. That is worth knowing, because most people assume a board with an RCD in it is covered, and changing a light fitting or a downlight on an unprotected circuit is exactly the job where it matters. You can check it yourself in thirty seconds: open the board and see whether the lighting circuits sit behind the safety switch or beside it.

Trees over the lines

On a private line, the tree is yours, and so is what happens when it comes down

Worongary has a large area of production forestry in its north-west, 28 parks and reserves, and rural-residential blocks of 4,000 to 5,000 square metres through the middle and south, many of them backing onto bush. Plenty of those properties are fed by overhead runs across their own land, and that changes who is responsible for the trees. Queensland’s Electrical Safety Office is clear that clearing trees away from privately owned powerlines is the property owner’s job, and Energex says plainly that if you own the property, it is your responsibility to keep private property poles safe and well-maintained. Both are equally clear about how: a qualified arborist or professional tree trimmer, never yourself, and never climbing the pole or touching the line. Energex also warns that a fallen property pole can bring its powerline down with it, which is the reason this is a maintenance item rather than a tidiness one. Inspect from ground level, book the trimming before storm season, and treat a leaning pole or a branch resting on a line as urgent.

A mortgage suburb

55% are paying a mortgage, which changes what a good quote looks like

Worongary carries the heaviest mortgage load on this list: 55.0% of homes are owned with a mortgage against 34.4% across Queensland, at a median repayment of $2,153 a month, with 30.4% owned outright and only 13.2% rented. It is also the most family-dominated suburb here, at 85.8% family households against 71.0% statewide, 3.1 people per home and 58.4% of houses with four bedrooms or more. What that means practically is that most households here are working to a monthly number, not sitting on cash. So the useful thing from an electrician is rarely one large quote. It is an honest split between what is a safety problem now, what will fail inside a year or two, and what is simply on the wish list, so the work can be staged in an order that makes sense rather than deferred entirely because the total looked frightening. We are happy to give you that breakdown at the inspection, in writing, whether or not you book the work.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can an electrician get to Worongary?
Worongary is within our southern Gold Coast hinterland coverage, sitting just west of the M1 and adjoining Mudgeeraba’s northern boundary, so standard bookings are usually actioned same-day. Genuine emergencies like power loss or burning smells are prioritised first. Call 0421 333 034 to check today’s availability.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency electrician call-outs in Worongary?
Yes. We provide 24/7 emergency electrician call-outs across Worongary for genuine urgent issues: power loss, sparking outlets, burning smells, or exposed wiring. Standard trading hours apply for scheduled, non-urgent work. Call 0421 333 034 any time to report an emergency.
What electrical issues are common in Worongary homes?
Worongary is 98.2% separate houses, so nearly every job here is a whole-property job rather than one lot inside a building. The suburb splits into two housing types: suburb-density residential in the north-east, built up mainly since Worongary State School opened in 1993, and rural-residential blocks of 4,000 to 5,000 square metres through the middle and south. The most common finding on homes from the mid-90s growth years is a safety switch protecting the power points but nothing protecting the lighting circuits, which was compliant at the time: safety switches only became compulsory on power point circuits in new Queensland homes from 1992, and on lighting circuits as well from 2000. On the older acreage properties it is more often original switchboards and long runs out to sheds. Newer homes usually need a load assessment before an EV charger goes in, and at 2.6 registered vehicles per dwelling, Worongary has the highest vehicle count of any suburb we cover.
Does Worongary’s bushland and forestry setting affect electrical work?
Yes, and it comes with a responsibility most people don’t expect. There’s a substantial area of production forestry in Worongary’s north-west, 28 parks and reserves across the suburb, and many rural-residential blocks back onto bush reserve, so vegetation encroaching on overhead lines is a regular issue here. Where the line or pole is on your side of the point of supply it is privately owned, and Queensland’s Electrical Safety Office states that clearing trees away from privately owned powerlines is the property owner’s responsibility. Energex likewise states that if you own the property, keeping private property poles safe and well-maintained is your responsibility. Use a qualified arborist rather than doing it yourself, never climb a pole or touch a line, and treat a leaning pole or a branch resting on a line as urgent. We can inspect exposed sections of your supply from ground level and advise on clearance, repair or replacement.
Do you handle electrical work for acreage and rural-residential properties in Worongary?
Yes. The middle and southern parts of Worongary are mostly rural-residential blocks of an acre or so, and the work looks different to a standard suburban job: shed and machinery circuits, pump wiring, private pole and overhead line inspections, and switchboard or consumer mains upgrades to handle modern loads. Sub-mains on these properties have to be sized for the distance they run, not just the load they carry. All quoted fixed-price on site before work starts.
How does your pricing work?
We confirm pricing on site before starting any work, so there’s no hourly billing to worry about, and nothing extra turns up on the invoice afterwards. Payment happens on the spot once the job’s done, via portable EFTPOS. If an inspection turns up more than one issue, we’ll tell you plainly which items are a safety problem now and which can reasonably wait, so you can stage the work rather than commit to everything at once.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 1511406 and full insurance. Every job also comes with a lifetime workmanship warranty rather than the usual 12-month term.
What are the QLD smoke alarm rules for Worongary properties?
Queensland law requires interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home, and on every storey. The requirement is being phased in, and the date that applies depends on the property: since 1 January 2017 it has applied to new builds and substantial renovations, since 1 January 2022 to any dwelling that is sold or leased, and from 1 January 2027 it applies to all remaining domestic dwellings, including owner-occupied homes. Only 13.2% of Worongary is rented, so for most households here 2027 is the operative date rather than 2022. With 58.4% of Worongary homes having four bedrooms or more, it is a larger install than most people expect. We supply and install compliant systems and can advise on your property’s exact requirements.

Disclaimer & sources

The local data in the “Local knowledge: Worongary” section is drawn from the third-party sources cited on each card and was last reviewed in September 2026. Those figures belong to the cited sources, not to Knight Electrical Solutions, and we do not claim to have collected them ourselves.

Census figures are Australian Bureau of Statistics 2021 Census data for the Worongary suburb (SAL) area, SAL33166. They describe the suburb as a whole and say nothing about any individual property. Averages such as bedrooms, household size and motor vehicles per dwelling are suburb-wide means and will not match any particular address. A recorded figure of 0.0% for townhouses and semi-detached dwellings reflects the 2021 Census count for the suburb and may not reflect development since.

The ABS does not publish year of construction at suburb level. The school opening date, the description of land use and the count of parks and reserves are as published on Wikipedia and have not been independently verified against council records. The link drawn between the school opening and the age of surrounding housing stock is our inference from the published land use description, not a construction record, and individual houses in the area may be older or newer.

Statements about Queensland safety switch requirements and about responsibility for private powerlines and property poles reflect guidance published by the Electrical Safety Office and Energex as at September 2026. Whether a particular pole or line is privately owned depends on where it sits relative to your point of supply and on the arrangements for your specific connection, which we establish on site. Statements about Queensland smoke alarm obligations reflect the phased requirements published by the Queensland Fire Department as at the same date. All of it is general information, not legal advice, and the requirements that apply to you depend on your circumstances.

Each card above combines published third-party data with Knight Electrical Solutions’ own professional interpretation of what that data tends to mean for electrical work in this suburb. The figures belong to the sources cited on each card. The conclusions we draw from them are our opinion, and are not claims made by those sources.

None of this replaces an on-site inspection by a licensed electrician. If something on your property looks or smells unsafe, or a pole or overhead line looks damaged, call 0421 333 034 rather than relying on general information. Never approach a fallen powerline.
