When it was built

The suburb gained 15 people in a decade. Every board in it is the same age.

Highland Park began as a Nerang housing estate and was only formally named as a suburb in its own right in 2003, long after it was built. William Duncan State School opened in January 1987, which dates the estate’s population fairly firmly to the late 1980s. Since then it has essentially stopped: 6,561 residents in 2011, 6,576 in 2021 — fifteen people in ten years. It is fully built out. That matters more than it sounds, because it means there is no rolling stock of new houses diluting the average. The switchboards here went in together and they are ageing together, which is why the same three jobs come up street after street: safety switches, a board sized for its era, and circuits that were never meant to carry what is now plugged into them.
