What We See In Older Gold Coast & SEQ Homes:

Pre-1970s properties frequently still have sections of original rubber or cloth-insulated wiring, which becomes brittle and crumbles at the terminations.

Some homes have aluminium wiring from the period it was used, which needs specific handling at connections. Boards from before the late 1980s may have asbestos backing panels.

None of this means an automatic full rewire. It means somebody needs to look before quoting, and we will tell you honestly whether you are looking at a partial rewire of the affected circuits or the whole house.

2. How much does it cost to rewire a house?

Rewiring cost depends on the size and age of the home, ease of access, the number of circuits and outlets, and whether you’re upgrading the switchboard at the same time. 3. How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

Signs a home needs rewiring include frequent tripping, flickering lights, discoloured or warm outlets, a burning smell, cloth or rubber-insulated wiring, and no safety switches. Homes built before the 1980s often have wiring nearing the end of its life. If you’re renovating, it’s the ideal time to rewire. We can inspect your wiring and tell you honestly whether it’s due.

4. Can you install extra power points and lighting during a renovation?

Absolutely – a renovation is the perfect time to add power points, lighting, data outlets, ceiling fans and dedicated circuits while walls and ceilings are open. Planning it early saves cost and mess. We’ll walk through your plans, suggest practical positions based on 20 years on the tools, and install everything to standard with a fixed-price quote and lifetime workmanship warranty.

5. Do I need council approval or certification for new wiring?

All new electrical installation work in Queensland must be carried out by a licensed electrician and certified as compliant – you’ll receive a Certificate of Testing and Compliance for the work. We handle the compliance side for you as part of the job, so your wiring is safe, legal and properly documented for insurance, sale or future renovations. It’s built into how we work.

6. How long does it take to rewire or wire a new home?

Timeframes vary with the size of the project – a single-room renovation may take a day or two, while a full rewire or new build spans longer and is staged around the build program. We’ll give you a clear schedule in your quote and coordinate with your other trades so the electrical work never holds up your project.

7. Can you future-proof my wiring for solar, EV or smart home?

Yes, and it’s smart to plan ahead. During a rewire or renovation we can install the capacity and provisions for EV charging, solar, ducted air-conditioning, data cabling and smart-home systems – even if you’re not adding them yet. Running the groundwork now is far cheaper than retrofitting later. Tell us your plans and we’ll design the wiring to accommodate them.

8. Is it cheaper to rewire during a renovation than afterwards?

Yes – significantly. When walls, floors and ceilings are already open, running new cable is far quicker and cleaner than retrofitting into a finished home, which means lower labour costs and no patching of new plaster.
