Replacement Vs A First-Time Install:

If there is already a fan up there, the wiring, the mounting and the switching are all present and the job is short. A first-time install is a different piece of work.

It needs a suitable structural fixing point, a cable run from the switchboard or an existing circuit, and a switch position, and in a ceiling with no access it may need a different approach entirely.

We tell you which of those two jobs you actually have before quoting, so nobody is surprised halfway through.

Here are a list of common questions we get asked by our Gold Coast Homeowners and Businesses

1. Can I put a ceiling fan where my light is?

Usually yes, but three things need checking first. The existing point has to be able to carry the fan’s load, the mounting above the ceiling has to take the weight (a fan moves and vibrates in a way a light fitting doesn’t) and the ceiling has to be high enough for safe blade clearance. All three are quick to check on site, and we do it before quoting rather than after.

2. How much does ceiling fan installation cost?

A straightforward swap where a fan or a suitable point already exists is the cheapest job. Installing where there’s only a light costs more if the mounting needs reinforcing, and installing in a room with no ceiling point at all costs the most because a new circuit or cable run is involved. You get a fixed price on site before anything starts.

3. Will you install a fan I've bought myself?

Yes. Bring us whatever you’ve bought and we’ll fit it. We’ll check it’s suitable for the space before installing it – outdoor and coastal locations need a fan rated for it, and an indoor fan under an alfresco roof won’t last on the Gold Coast.

4. How high does my ceiling need to be?

There’s a minimum clearance between the floor and the blades required under the wiring rules, and standard ceilings almost always clear it. Low or raked ceilings are the ones worth checking, and in a raked ceiling the mounting angle matters as well as the height. We’ll measure it before quoting.

5. Can I have the fan and light on separate switches?

Yes, though it depends on how the room is wired. If there’s only one switch wire to the ceiling you’ll either need a second run, a fan with a remote, or a wall controller. Remotes are the cheapest option and the most common choice. We’ll tell you which applies to your room before quoting.

6. How long does it take?

A replacement or a swap where a suitable point exists is usually under an hour. Fitting where the mounting needs reinforcing takes longer, and a new point in a room without one depends on the ceiling access. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe with the quote rather than after we arrive.

7. My ceiling fan is wobbling. Can it be fixed?

Usually. Wobble is normally an unbalanced blade, a loose mounting or a fan that wasn’t secured properly to begin with. Occasionally it’s a bent blade that needs replacing. It’s worth sorting rather than ignoring, because a fan working loose in a ceiling is a genuine hazard.

8. Can you install fans outside, on a patio or alfresco area?

Yes, with a fan rated for outdoor use. Coastal air on the Gold Coast is hard on hardware, and an indoor fan in a covered outdoor area will corrode and fail well before it should. Fans rated for damp or coastal conditions cost more up front and last considerably longer.
