The tank itself, the valves, the tempering valve and the water connections are plumbing work and require a plumbing licence in Queensland.

If your problem turns out to be a leaking tank we will tell you straight away rather than charging you to arrive at that conclusion. We also have plumbers we trust and can refer to if they are a better fit to take care of the hot water system issue.

No hot water usually points to a tripped circuit, a failed heating element, a faulty thermostat, or an issue with the off-peak supply or timer. Start by checking whether the hot water breaker or safety switch has tripped. If it won’t reset or there’s still no hot water, it needs a licensed electrician to diagnose. We’ll test the element, thermostat and supply and fix the fault.
Repair cost depends on the fault – replacing an element or thermostat is far cheaper than a full system replacement. We diagnose the actual problem first and give you a fixed-price quote, so you can make an informed decision rather than paying to replace parts unnecessarily. Both are common failure points, and the symptoms overlap – no hot water, or water that’s lukewarm or runs cold quickly. A failed element stops heating entirely; a faulty thermostat may under- or over-heat, or trip the safety switch. We test each component to pinpoint the real cause, so you only pay to replace what’s actually failed — not both on a guess.
It depends on the fault. Electric hot water problems involving the element, thermostat, wiring, circuit or off-peak supply are electrical work – that’s us. Issues with tanks, valves, leaks or the water side are a plumber’s domain. Often the fault is electrical, so start with us; we’ll diagnose it and tell you honestly if a plumber is needed instead of, or alongside, our work.
A hot water system that trips the safety switch usually has a faulty element or moisture where it shouldn’t be – the safety switch is correctly detecting a leakage fault and protecting you. Repeatedly resetting it is unsafe. This is a common and repairable fault; we’ll isolate whether it’s the element, thermostat or wiring and replace the faulty part, backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty.
Off-peak or controlled-load hot water heats overnight on a cheaper electricity tariff. If your system runs on off-peak and you’ve run out of hot water, it may simply not have reheated yet, or the controlled-load supply or timer may have a fault. We can check whether the issue is the tariff supply, the timer, or the system itself, and get your hot water reliable again.
Most electric storage systems last around 8–12 years, depending on the tank, water quality and maintenance. If yours is older and repairs are becoming frequent, replacement may be more economical than another fix. We’ll give you an honest assessment (repair if it’s worth it, replace if it’s not) so you’re not throwing money at a system near the end of its life.
